Melissa Mullis, Carson Cummings Obituary, Death -On Christmas night, a tragic accident involving a deer claimed the lives of a Concord mother and daughter in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The fatal crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Gold Hill Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded as one vehicle was traveling southwest on Gold Hill Road and another was heading northeast. A deer crossing the road was struck by the southwest-bound vehicle, propelling the animal into the path of the northeast-bound car. The deer crashed through the windshield of the second vehicle, striking the driver and a passenger in the back seat.
The victims were identified as 31-year-old Melissa Mullis, the driver, and 12-year-old Carson Cummings, the back-right passenger. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision but were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities conducted an on-site investigation, which resulted in the closure of Gold Hill Road for approximately two hours. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that no charges would be filed in connection with the accident, as it was determined to be an unforeseeable and unavoidable event.
