Andrew Francis Evans II Obituary, Death: Fatal crash in Dunkirk kills Washington D.C. man.

Andrew Francis Evans II Obituary, Death – On December 9, 2024, at approximately 2:23 p.m., deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to a serious single-vehicle crash in Dunkirk, Maryland, near the intersection of MD Route 4 and Cedarwood Lane.

Initial investigations suggest that a GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on MD Route 4, approaching Lyons Creek Road, when the vehicle veered off the road. Witnesses and evidence indicate the vehicle struck a speed limit sign in the grassy area on the right side of the road. Afterward, the GMC Yukon re-entered the roadway, swerving between lanes while traveling at high speed, according to witness statements.

As the vehicle continued, it crossed the grassy center median, entered the northbound lanes of Route 4, and eventually left the road once more. The vehicle struck a tree in the grassy area off northbound Route 4, near Cedarwood Lane, where it finally came to a stop.

The driver of the vehicle, 43-year-old Andrew Francis Evans II from Washington, D.C., was found deceased at the scene. Authorities believe that the crash may have been caused by a combination of high speed and a potential medical event, though this remains under investigation.

Deputy Anna Morrison from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or observed any events leading up to it to contact Deputy Morrison at 410-535-2800 or via email at Anna.Morrison@calvertcountymd.gov.
