Leo Lyonnais, Annette Lyonnais Obituary, Death – The identities of the elderly couple who perished in a house fire on Christmas Day in Acushnet, Massachusetts, have been confirmed, and the incident has been deemed accidental. Leo Lyonnais, aged 89, and Annette Lyonnais, aged 87, were identified on Thursday by local and state fire and police authorities as the victims of the fire that engulfed their residence on Garfield Street in the early hours of the holiday.
Investigators were unable to ascertain the exact cause of the fire; however, they noted the presence of a wood stove and a wall outlet with a multi-prong adapter connected in the area where the fire began. Although a definitive cause was not established, officials have stated that the fire is not considered suspicious.
“On behalf of the Acushnet Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Lyonnais family,” stated Acushnet Fire Chief Thomas Farland.
When firefighters and police arrived at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday, they found flames and smoke emanating from the two-and-a-half-story multifamily dwelling. Another occupant of the building managed to escape after a neighbor alerted him to the fire by knocking on his door.
A firefighter who was transported to the hospital is currently under observation and is expected to make a full recovery.
