Kenneth D. Buckner Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the driver involved in a fatal crash on northbound Interstate 95 near Lorton. When the incident occurred, Kenneth D. Buckner, a 35-year-old from Washington, D.C., was driving a 2013 BMW 650I. According to Virginia State Police, Buckner was ejected from his convertible and struck by another vehicle. He died at the scene, having been thrown from the car due to not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash took place on Monday afternoon at the 163-mile marker, when the BMW, travelling at a high speed, switched lanes and collided with a 2020 Mercedes E-Class. As a result of the impact, the Mercedes hit the guardrail, and the BMW struck a jersey wall. Buckner was ejected from the vehicle, and tragically, was then hit by the Mercedes.
The passenger of the BMW, 29-year-old Tyra Williams, was also partially thrown from the car during the crash. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Police have not released the name of the driver of the Mercedes, nor have they indicated whether any charges have been filed. Investigators also mentioned a third vehicle—a dark-colored Infinity sedan—was involved in the incident. This vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed but did not strike any other vehicles.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the details of the tragic accident.
