According to Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble, she was hit by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene, leaving her critically injured.

Emergency responders, including members of the Mohegan Lake Fire Department and paramedics from Putnam and Westchester counties, rushed to Proeschel’s aid. Despite their swift response and efforts to stabilize her, Proeschel succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Peekskill-Cortlandt.
