Jeffrey Kanas Obituary, Death – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has identified the agent who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash earlier this week near Potrero, California. Air Interdiction Agent Jeffrey Kanas was piloting the CBP Air and Marine Operations helicopter when it crashed around 10 a.m. Monday. The site of the incident was located north of State Route 94, approximately two miles south of Barrett Lake.
Kanas, who had been serving with CBP since 2008, was the only individual aboard the aircraft during the crash. CBP confirmed his death and expressed their condolences for the loss of a dedicated agent.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently leading an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
