The collision occurred around 6 p.m. near Maples Road. According to the preliminary report, a GMC Sierra traveling northbound veered into the southbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a Honda Ridgeline.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, 46-year-old Benjiman Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that Jones was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Honda Ridgeline sustained injuries, though specific details about their condition have not been disclosed.
Emergency response teams, including the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, were called to the scene, which caused the southbound lanes of Chapman Highway to be temporarily closed. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
