Demario Anderson Obituary, Death, MNPD: Woman succumbs to injuries from Dickerson Pike shooting

Demario Anderson Obituary, Death – A woman who was shot during an attempted robbery in a Dickerson Pike parking lot on Monday morning has died from her injuries, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
The incident occurred in the 3700 block of Dickerson Pike, where homicide detectives responded early in the day. Through interviews with witnesses and an examination of the evidence, investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a robbery attempt involving multiple individuals.
Police say 19-year-old Janiyah Batey was the intended robbery victim. According to statements gathered at the scene, 16-year-old Martavious Luster and two other unidentified individuals approached Batey in an effort to rob her. Luster reportedly admitted to authorities that he was wearing a ski mask and armed with a gun during the confrontation.
During the attempted robbery, a brief but intense exchange of gunfire took place between Batey and the suspects. MNPD believes that during the shootout, Batey’s gunfire struck and killed 16-year-old Demario Anderson, who was found dead at the scene by officers.
Batey, who was also shot during the encounter, attempted to flee the scene by vehicle but crashed shortly afterward. Police discovered her inside the wrecked car and rushed her to Skyline Medical Center. She was listed in extremely critical condition at the time of transport. Later, officials confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
In the aftermath, authorities arrested Martavious Luster. He is currently charged with criminal homicide in connection to the deadly confrontation. The MNPD continues to search for the other two suspects who were allegedly involved in the robbery attempt. Their identities remain unknown at this time.
Officials have not released details about the type of weapons used, how many shots were fired, or whether any security footage from nearby businesses captured the incident. The motive appears to have been a robbery, but investigators are still working to piece together exactly how the events unfolded and who fired first.
The MNPD emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that more charges may follow as they gather additional information. Police are also encouraging anyone with knowledge of the two remaining suspects to come forward.
The case has shocked the community, as it involved multiple young individuals — including two teens now deceased and another facing serious legal consequences. The deaths of Batey and Anderson, both under the age of 20, have drawn concern and sorrow from local residents.
Authorities are expected to release more updates as the investigation develops. In the meantime, the MNPD is focused on identifying and locating the remaining individuals involved in what began as a robbery but ended in a deadly exchange of gunfire.
