Darius Edwards Obituary, Death – A Eunice man, Darius Edwards, 25, was tragically killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident on Friday evening, according to local authorities. Edwards was riding an electric motorized scooter on S. Aymond Street when he was struck by a vehicle. The incident prompted a swift response from the Eunice Police Department.

The driver responsible for the crash, identified as 49-year-old Kevin Jermaine Thomas Sr. of Eunice, has been charged with several offenses, including negligent homicide, hit and run resulting in death or serious bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, and passing in a no-passing zone. The charges were filed following an investigation into the collision.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Eunice Police officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident on S. Aymond Street. Upon arrival, they found Edwards lying unresponsive on the road. Bystanders were performing CPR on the victim. Officers took over the life-saving efforts until paramedics from the Eunice Fire Department and EMS arrived at the scene. Despite their best efforts, Edwards was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved in the crash was a gray SUV traveling southbound at high speed, overtaking other vehicles in the center turn lane. They stated that Edwards was traveling northbound in the same lane when the SUV struck him. After hitting Edwards, the driver of the vehicle briefly stopped for 10-15 seconds but then fled the scene, continuing southbound on S. Aymond.

Authorities later located the vehicle and driver, and Thomas was taken into custody. While bond details for Thomas have not been released, the investigation into the crash continues.
