The Lexington County Coroner, Margaret Fisher, confirmed Backman’s identity and announced that she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital following the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:03 p.m.

The incident began as a two-vehicle collision. After the initial crash, drivers exited their vehicles to assess the situation. While standing outside their cars, Backman was struck by a third vehicle. Tragically, her injuries proved fatal despite prompt medical attention.
