Dazariah Easton Obituary, Death – Authorities in Brunswick have identified the teenager killed in an accidental shooting over the weekend. The Glynn County Coroner confirmed that the victim was 14-year-old Dazariah Easton.
According to the Brunswick Police Department, officers were called to a residence on Altama Avenue Saturday night after reports of a shooting. Neighbors indicated the incident occurred near Stonewall Street. Investigators determined that the shooting happened inside the home when 17-year-old Daquarius Wallace mishandled a firearm, causing it to discharge and fatally wound Easton.
Wallace was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder and cruelty to children. Police also arrested 21-year-old Bobby Sullivan in connection with the case. Sullivan is facing charges of cruelty to children along with other related counts. Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
The tragic death has reignited conversations about gun safety and accidental shootings among young people. Data from Everytown for Gun Safety, a nonprofit that tracks gun-related incidents, shows that unintentional shootings by children are a growing concern. Nationwide, there have already been at least 154 such incidents this year, resulting in 62 deaths and 95 injuries.
Georgia currently ranks highest in the country for these types of shootings, with 12 cases recorded so far in 2025. Florida follows closely behind with 11 incidents. Advocates say these statistics highlight the urgent need for safer storage practices and stronger community awareness around firearm safety.
Jennifer Massey, chapter lead with Moms Demand Action Florida, emphasized that tragedies like Easton’s death are preventable. Her organization, which is part of a grassroots movement pushing for common-sense gun safety measures, has long argued that proper storage is key to reducing accidental shootings.
“Firearm deaths are the leading cause of death among our children and teens in this country,” Massey explained. “They’re preventable because there are preventable ways to keep our children safe, and that is through securing firearms—through secure storage, using gun locks, gun boxes, gun safes, and things like that.”
Moms Demand Action and similar advocacy groups continue to push for both policy changes and cultural shifts around firearm storage. They stress that responsible gun ownership, including the use of safety devices and keeping firearms out of reach of minors, can save lives.
For the Brunswick community, Easton’s death has left deep sorrow and frustration. A promising young life was cut short, and residents are grappling with the fact that the incident could have been avoided with more caution and responsibility. The arrests of Wallace and Sullivan mark the first steps toward accountability, but the pain felt by Easton’s family and friends underscores the broader consequences of unsafe firearm practices.
