William Yost Obituary, Death – A tragic wrong-way collision on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Pasadena resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left three others hospitalized on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 8:10 a.m. near North San Rafael Avenue when a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp, traveling in the wrong direction eastbound on the westbound lanes, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash involved four vehicles, including a white sedan, a silver minivan, and two other unidentified vehicles. At least one of the vehicles caught fire, adding to the severity of the incident. Emergency responders from the Pasadena Fire Department, including paramedics and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene at 8:15 a.m. According to department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian, two individuals lost their lives in the crash, and three others were taken to a local trauma center for medical attention.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office later identified one of the deceased as 31-year-old William Yost. The crash not only caused immense personal tragedy but also led to significant traffic disruptions. The congestion particularly affected the Colorado Street Bridge area. A Sigalert was issued at 8:34 a.m., closing the westbound lanes of the freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard. The alert was eventually lifted at 1:08 p.m., restoring traffic flow.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by wrong-way drivers and the devastating impact such accidents can have on the victims and the surrounding community. The CHP is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to this fatal crash.
