At the same time, a 31-year-old man operating a John Deere tractor was performing construction work near the intersection. According to CHP, the tractor driver was crossing from the north side of Leon Road to the south side, directly across the intersection where Sallman was traveling.
The exact circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation. For reasons that have not yet been confirmed, the motorcyclist collided with the tractor as it crossed the intersection. The impact of the collision was severe, causing Sallman to be ejected from his motorcycle. He landed within the intersection after being thrown from his bike.
