When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim, identified as Walter D. Humphrey, had been struck by a minivan that had crashed into the facility. Humphrey, a patient at the center, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports from WVLT.

The driver was identified by police as 24-year-old Eleasah Williams. She has been charged with vehicular homicide with recklessness. Court documents reveal that before the crash, Williams was experiencing severe emotional distress and had expressed both suicidal and homicidal thoughts. She reportedly told authorities that she wanted to end her life and take others with her.

Investigators said that around 5:04 a.m., Williams left an apartment complex and began speeding in her minivan. Just minutes later, police received a report that the vehicle had slammed into the side of the assisted living facility, coming to a halt inside the building.

Preliminary findings from the police indicate that Williams drove at a high speed down Woodview Lane, crossed all four lanes of Middlebrook Pike, jumped the curb, and then crashed into the facility. Humphrey was inside the building at the time and was fatally struck during the incident.

Williams was also injured in the crash but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a hospital for treatment. According to court records, she admitted to knowingly driving at an unsafe and illegal speed with the intention of killing herself. She also acknowledged taking prescription medications and using a THC vape before getting behind the wheel.

The collision caused significant damage to the assisted living center, with estimates for repairs exceeding \$1,000. Although the damage to the facility was secondary, the fatal consequences of the crash have left a deep impact on the community and the residents of Shannondale.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. The Knoxville Police Department has not ruled out additional charges and is working to determine all factors involved, including Williams’ mental health status and substance use at the time of the crash.
