Valerie Ann Cadwallader Obituary, Death – The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the woman who was fatally shot as 48-year-old Valerie Ann Cadwallader from Chico. The inquiry into the shooting is still in progress and remains active.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey informed Action News Now that the deputy depicted on the driver’s side of the patrol vehicle in the accompanying image was responsible for discharging a round at the female suspect during the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Butte Creek Island Road on Thursday. A woman has died following an officer-involved shooting involving the Butte County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon. As reported by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to the 11000 block of Butte Creek Island Road at approximately 2:39 p.m.
Thursday after receiving notifications of a disturbance involving a female individual. Upon their arrival, deputies found the woman armed with a rifle. The 48-year-old woman reportedly aimed the rifle at the responding deputies and urged them to shoot her. A deputy then fired a single shot from his service rifle, hitting the woman.
Authorities state that deputies promptly rendered medical assistance to the woman at the scene, and she was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance for treatment. Unfortunately, she later died from her injuries while at the hospital. The Butte County Officer Involved Shooting Protocol Team, which includes the District Attorney’s Office, is currently investigating the incident.
The California Department of Justice is also providing assistance with the investigation. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
