TyKerriya Overstreet Obituary, Death: Two teen girls struck, killed in Mobile County crash while walking

TyKerriya Overstreet Obituary, DeathFOX10 News is reporting on a heartbreaking incident in Mobile County, Alabama, where two teenage girls lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Airport Boulevard near Trailwood Boulevard. The two teens were walking when they were hit by a vehicle under circumstances that remain unclear.

Family members have identified one of the victims as 16-year-old TyKerriya Overstreet. The second victim, a 15-year-old girl, has not been publicly named by authorities but was described by the family as a close friend of Overstreet — more like a sister than just a friend. The girls were reportedly walking to a nearby store when the incident happened.

The families of both girls are devastated and frustrated, claiming that communication from officials has been lacking. Takea Simmons, TyKerriya’s aunt, expressed outrage and sorrow, stating that they were never contacted by law enforcement about the accident. “We got the call at 6 a.m., but not from investigators,” Simmons said. “Not a lieutenant. Not a trooper. We heard about it through word of mouth.”

Simmons described the area where the crash occurred as poorly lit and lacking basic traffic safety measures. “They were walking in this vibrant neighborhood. No caution lights, no stop signs, no nothing,” she said. “Some kind of way, they were both hit by a vehicle — two young girls, one vehicle.”

The family is pleading for answers and justice, feeling left in the dark as they cope with their loss. They say they want transparency and accountability from officials and are determined to get justice for their loved ones.

TyKerriya’s family remembered her as a joyful, loving teen who cherished time with her relatives. Her aunt Destiny shared how TyKerriya had faced many challenges in life but always overcame them with strength and determination. “She was so full of life,” Destiny said. “She loved her family. We had plans this weekend. I still can’t believe she’s gone.”

The tragedy has shattered both families, as the girls were described as inseparable and had their futures ahead of them. Their sudden deaths have left a void that cannot be filled.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver involved, and the crash remains under active investigation by ALEA. Authorities have not released any additional details regarding the driver’s identity, condition, or whether impairment or speed may have been factors.

As the investigation continues, the grieving families are urging the public to help raise awareness and demand answers. They hope that by speaking out, they can ensure that the girls’ lives are honored and that steps are taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
