Thromas Cross Obituary, Death – A fatal crash in Spring Valley Township left one person dead and four others injured on Friday evening, prompting an investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The collision occurred at approximately 5:37 p.m. at the intersection of West Spring Valley Paintersville Road and State Route 380. Authorities from the Xenia Post of OSHP responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash and found a devastating scene upon arrival.
According to an OSHP spokesperson, 28-year-old Thromas Cross was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on West Spring Valley Paintersville Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with State Route 380. As a result, his vehicle collided with a 2022 Ford F-150 driven by 39-year-old Jacob Maywald, who was traveling south on State Route 380.
The force of the crash caused both vehicles to veer off the southeast corner of the intersection. Cross’s vehicle overturned and landed on its roof, sustaining severe damage. Emergency responders worked quickly to assess the situation, but Cross was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maywald, the driver of the Ford F-150, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles had passengers at the time of the crash. Cross’s passenger, 29-year-old Caroline Tyson, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Maywald’s vehicle carried two additional occupants: 39-year-old Christina Maywald and a minor. Christina suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for urgent care, while the minor sustained lesser injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Multiple emergency agencies assisted at the scene, including the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Valley Township Fire & EMS, Waynesville EMS, City of Xenia Fire & EMS, Xenia Township EMS, the Greene County Coroner’s Office, and Sandy’s Towing. Their combined efforts helped secure the area, provide medical aid, and begin the process of clearing debris from the roadway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities will likely examine factors such as vehicle speed, road conditions, and any potential driver impairment. The OSHP has not yet released information on whether alcohol or other contributing factors played a role in the accident.
The intersection where the crash occurred is known to be a busy crossing point, and accidents in the area have raised concerns about traffic safety. Some residents have called for increased signage or other safety measures to prevent future incidents.
As news of the fatal accident spreads, family, friends, and community members are mourning the loss of Thromas Cross. Meanwhile, the other victims continue to receive treatment as they recover from their injuries.
