According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were initially dispatched around 2:40 a.m. in response to reports of a vehicle crash in the 300 block of South MacArthur Highway. While officers were on their way to the location, the call was upgraded to include reports of a possible shooting.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Inside the vehicle, they found a 20-year-old man—later identified as Scott—unresponsive. Emergency responders attempted to render aid, but Scott was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Coroner Harwood conducted an autopsy on Saturday, which revealed that Scott had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. The coroner confirmed that the injury caused instantaneous death.

In connection with the same incident, a second shooting victim—a 19-year-old male—showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.
