Layla Chrissa Clemons, Jaea Chatman Obituary, Death News – The West Sacramento Police Department has temporarily closed a section of road on Wednesday as part of their investigation into a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred over the weekend. The tragic accident took place around 9 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Bevan Road. The collision claimed the lives of two 17-year-old girls, identified as Layla Chrissa Clemons and Jaea Chatman, according to the Yolo County Coroner.

Melissa Vallejo, the mother of one of the victims, Layla Clemons, shared with KCRA 3 that her daughter had been riding her bicycle home alongside her friend when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver responsible for the crash did not stop and left the scene, prompting a search by authorities.

On Sunday, police arrested 71-year-old David Alison Walker in connection with the fatal crash. By Tuesday, KCRA 3 obtained official documents outlining the criminal charges he now faces. These charges include two felony counts of murder and two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The latter charges come with enhancements for leaving the scene of the crash. In addition, Walker is charged with two felony counts of hit-and-run resulting in death, one felony count of vehicle theft, and one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license. This final charge includes an enhancement due to the serious injuries inflicted and because the victims were considered particularly vulnerable.

In light of the ongoing investigation, police have closed a portion of Jefferson Boulevard from Southport Parkway to Bevan Road. The closure is scheduled to last from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. While authorities did not provide specific details on why the closure is needed, they emphasized that it is necessary to support the investigation into the crash that took the lives of the two teenagers.

This incident has shocked and saddened the local community, particularly as the victims were so young and had their lives ahead of them. Tributes and condolences have been pouring in for Layla and Jaea, and families are seeking justice as the case proceeds through the legal system. The charges against Walker reflect the severity of the incident and the consequences of impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement is expected to piece together additional details of the crash using evidence collected at the scene and witness statements. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of two young lives and reflects on the tragic outcome of reckless driving behavior.
