Eduardo Membrano Obituary, Death: Authorities identify man killed in wrong-way crash on 405 Freeway.

Eduardo Membrano Obituary, Death – A man who died in a wrong-way crash on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks has been identified as 30-year-old Eduardo Membrano, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Membrano was reported driving north in the southbound carpool lane near the Getty Center. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers received reports of the wrong-way driver before the fatal collision took place.

At approximately 4:06 a.m., CHP officers responded to the southbound 405 Freeway near the Valley Vista Boulevard exit, where Membrano had crashed head-on into another vehicle. The impact involved multiple cars, causing serious injuries to two other people.

Membrano was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle he struck sustained critical injuries, including multiple broken bones, and was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Despite the severity of his injuries, he was alert and able to communicate with officers and paramedics. Another individual involved in the crash was evaluated at the scene but declined further medical treatment, according to Los Angeles Fire Department official Mark McLean.

The collision led to a major traffic disruption, forcing an hourslong closure of most southbound lanes during the busy Tuesday morning commute. A SigAlert was issued at 4:26 a.m., shutting down all southbound lanes. Authorities worked for several hours to clear the wreckage, and the freeway was finally reopened at 9:38 a.m.

The CHP has not released further details about what caused Membrano to drive the wrong way or whether impairment was a factor. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
