Sherman Della Obituary, Death: Officials identify man found dead in Hawthorn Woods house fire debris

Sherman Della Obituary, Death – The man who tragically died in a large fire over the weekend in the northwest suburbs has been identified. Fire officials and the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 73-year-old Sherman Della was the victim found among the debris of the destroyed home on Rosewood Drive in Hawthorn Woods.

The fire, which took place on Saturday, led to the complete destruction of the residence. Firefighters arrived at the scene and were faced with numerous challenges, particularly due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, which made it more difficult to control the flames. Della’s body was discovered on Sunday amid the wreckage of the home, where he had been trapped.

Earlier reports from Lake Zurich fire officials had indicated that there was a “missing husband” connected to the fire, but it was not until Sunday that the identity of the deceased was confirmed. The coroner’s office stated that Della was a family member, though he did not reside at the home where the fire occurred.

Investigators have noted that the family owned an electric vehicle and a charging station located in the garage. While it has not been confirmed that the fire originated from the garage, officials suggested that the presence of the electric vehicle and its charging station could have added to the challenges firefighters faced in extinguishing the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the Hawthorn Woods Police Department, the Lake Zurich Fire Department, local fire investigators, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office all involved in trying to determine what triggered the blaze. Authorities have not yet provided additional details regarding the fire’s origin or the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
