Gerald Atkins Obituary, Death – A fatal shooting occurred early Saturday morning in Powder Springs, leaving a 67-year-old man dead and a suspect in custody, according to Cobb County Police. The incident took place around 3:33 a.m., when officers responded to a call reporting a shooting at a residence on Katie Emma Drive.
Upon arrival, police discovered Gerald Atkins, a 67-year-old man from Kansas City, Kansas, who had been shot multiple times. Despite efforts to assist, Atkins was pronounced dead at the scene. In response to the shooting, the Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
After gathering evidence and conducting an investigation, detectives identified 64-year-old Bryon Canady, a Powder Springs resident, as the suspect. Canady was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Atkins. He is currently being held in custody at the Cobb County Detention Center.
