Sharon Shearer Obituary, Death; Penfield Crash Victim Identified.

Sharon Shearer Obituary, Death – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a single-vehicle crash in Penfield that occurred Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that the woman killed was 69-year-old Sharon Shearer, a resident of Penfield.

According to Deputy David Marcucci, the incident took place shortly before 3:10 p.m. Shearer had been driving eastbound on Atlantic Avenue, between Five Mile Line and Baird Roads, when her vehicle suddenly veered off the south side of the roadway while navigating a curve. The car first struck a support wire connected to a utility pole, which caused the pole to shear. Following that, the vehicle collided with a boulder and subsequently caught fire, creating a dangerous scene for both the driver and responding officers.

Deputies who arrived at the scene found the car ablaze and entangled in downed power lines. Unfortunately, Shearer, the sole occupant of the vehicle, did not survive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews and deputies worked swiftly to secure the area, extinguish the fire, and manage the hazardous conditions created by the downed utility lines.

The crash has prompted an ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. Authorities are examining possible factors, including road conditions, vehicle performance, and any medical or environmental elements that may have contributed to the crash. Deputy Marcucci noted that the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and investigators are working carefully to piece together the sequence of events.

Officials have not indicated whether weather, speed, or mechanical failure may have played a role in Shearer’s vehicle leaving the road. The roadway involved, particularly at the curve where the crash occurred, will likely be analyzed as part of the investigation to determine if design or visibility issues contributed.

The Penfield community is grappling with the loss of a longtime resident. Shearer’s death is a stark reminder of the potential hazards that can occur even on familiar routes and highlights the importance of cautious driving, especially around curves or areas with obstacles such as utility poles and boulders.

Law enforcement emphasized the need for thorough investigation before drawing conclusions about the cause of the crash. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with other agencies as needed to ensure all aspects of the incident are documented and analyzed.

In the meantime, the community and Shearer’s family are left to mourn her sudden and tragic passing. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The investigation remains active, with officials promising updates as more details become available. Safety and caution remain central messages from deputies responding to this type of accident, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
