According to the initial investigation, the crash occurred as a tractor-trailer, driven by 27-year-old Rolando Torres Lebron of Buffalo, New York, was traveling westbound. For reasons still under review, the semi struck the back of the Ford F-450 before veering out of control. The impact sent the tractor-trailer across multiple lanes of traffic and off the left side of the road.

Officials said the vehicle then slammed into the concrete median before re-entering the highway. After crossing back onto the roadway, the tractor-trailer veered off again, this time to the right, where it collided with a traffic sign pole before finally coming to a stop. The violent series of impacts left the truck heavily damaged.

The Ford F-450, after being struck, was also forced off the road. It collided with the concrete median before eventually coming to rest. Despite the severity of the accident, the driver of the pickup truck managed to avoid life-threatening injuries and was not seriously harmed, according to troopers.

Tragically, the crash proved fatal for the tractor-trailer occupants. The driver, Torres Lebron, was pronounced dead at the scene along with his 23-year-old passenger, Ayeisha Morales. Authorities also confirmed that two children traveling with them were killed in the accident. Their names have not been released as of yet, pending notification of family members.
