When authorities arrived at the scene, four deputies from the sheriff’s office immediately entered the water in an urgent attempt to rescue Lynn from the submerged vehicle. Despite their swift efforts, they were unable to save him.

Sheriff Austin Garrett praised the dedication of the responding personnel, which included deputies as well as teams from the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue, Hamilton County STARS, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), Tennessee State Parks, and Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services (HCEMS).
