Richard E. Childress Obituary, Death – A 76-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash Sunday night in Brown County, Kansas, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on US-36 highway near Goldfinch Road, approximately five miles east of Fairview.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the crash involved a 2013 Kia Sorento, which was traveling eastbound on US-36 when, for reasons that remain unclear, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the left, or the north side. After leaving the road, the vehicle continued east in a ditch, striking a highway sign before hitting the intersection with Goldfinch Road.
At this point, the vehicle vaulted and rolled over multiple times. The force of the crash caused the driver to be ejected from the car. The driver, identified as Richard E. Childress, 76, from Hiawatha, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Childress was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol’s investigation into the accident is ongoing.
