Richard Alan Dykes Obituary, Death: Pedestrian killed in Dooly County hit-and-run; GSP asks for public’s help.

Richard Alan Dykes Obituary, Death – The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is asking for the public’s assistance following a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place early Tuesday, June 17, in Dooly County. Authorities are seeking any video footage or details that could help identify the vehicle involved and its driver.
According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Interstate 75 in the southbound lanes, near mile marker 109 by Exit 109 in Vienna. Troopers reported that a pedestrian was standing near his vehicle on the shoulder of the highway when a passing semi-truck is believed to have veered out of its lane, striking the individual.
The pedestrian, identified as Richard Alan Dykes of Cochran, Georgia, was killed in the incident. Officials say the driver of the semi-truck did not stop and left the scene without reporting the collision.
Based on evidence from the crash site, investigators believe the semi-truck involved may have sustained damage to its right-side headlight. The vehicle was likely continuing southbound on I-75 following the impact.
The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team from Troop H has taken over the investigation to piece together the details of the crash and track down the driver responsible. They are analyzing the scene and looking into any available traffic or surveillance footage that could provide additional clues.
In an effort to move the investigation forward, GSP is urging anyone who was traveling along I-75 in the area around the time of the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in any dashcam footage from drivers, or eyewitness accounts that may help identify the truck or provide insight into what happened.
Those with information are encouraged to contact the Troop H Radio Room at (229) 386-3333.
This hit-and-run fatality has raised concerns about highway safety and the importance of drivers remaining at the scene of an accident. Authorities stress that leaving the scene of a fatal crash is a serious offense and are committed to holding the driver accountable.
As the investigation continues, the family of Richard Alan Dykes mourns the loss of a loved one. The GSP hopes that with the public’s help, they can bring answers and justice in this tragic case.
