Rashid A. Shepard Obituary, Death – A man has died after being struck by a car early Friday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police. The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. in the southbound local lanes near 44th Street.
The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 28-year-old Rashid A. Shepard, was hit by a vehicle while on the roadway. Authorities confirmed that the car’s driver involved in the crash stopped after the collision.
As a result of the crash, outbound lanes on the Dan Ryan Expressway were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic disruptions. Drivers were diverted off the expressway at 35th Street, while the lanes remained closed until shortly before 4 a.m. when they were reopened.
Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the crash. At this time, it remains unclear why Shepard was on the roadway at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
