Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman, later identified as Patricia Green of Collinsville, was walking in the roadway when she was hit by a car traveling northbound. Emergency responders found Green lying in a ditch, suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was quickly transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Madison County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity and reported that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and chest.
As of Wednesday, Illinois State Police, along with the Madison County Coroner’s Office, were still investigating the incident.
