Nyla Simmons Obituary, Death: 18-year-old dies after falling from SUV and being struck by fire truck

Nyla Simmons Obituary, Death – An 18-year-old woman tragically lost her life in St. Louis on Saturday night after falling from the roof of an SUV and being struck by a fire truck. The woman, identified as Nyla Simmons, was involved in an incident that occurred around 11:20 p.m. when a Cadillac Escalade stopped at a red light. Simmons was reportedly dancing on top of the vehicle when it began moving again, causing her to fall off. Within moments, a fire truck responding to an emergency call, with its lights and sirens on, hit her.
Nyla Simmons’ parents described their daughter as a vibrant and outgoing young woman who loved spending time with friends. Her father, Everett Simmons, expressed the deep impact of the loss, saying, “We aren’t ever going to be the same after this.” Nyla had been attending a friend’s prom send-off earlier that evening before the tragic accident took place.
Her parents spoke emotionally about their daughter’s life and the circumstances of her death. “We just wanted the best for Nyla,” her mother, Letrice Simmons, said. “The incident is just tragic the way she died, but that’s what hurts the most—the way she died. Nyla was out having fun, that’s what she liked: having fun, hanging out with her friends.” The Simmons family emphasized that Nyla’s death should serve as a warning for others to be cautious when having fun.
Despite their grief, Nyla’s parents did not place blame on the friends who were with her in the vehicle that night. “We’ve all been young before, we all have done some type of thing where it could have ended up bad for us,” her father said. “We want all her people and her friends to take this and learn from it.” Nyla’s mother added a heartfelt plea: “Don’t get on top of a car, ya’ll, just don’t get on top. Just be safe.”
Nyla was the youngest of five children and had recently graduated from Parkway North High School. She was excited to begin her studies at Grabber School of Hair Design, where she was scheduled to start cosmetology school on Monday. “I’m highly distraught that I don’t get to see what she was going to become,” her father remarked, reflecting on the loss of the future that Nyla would never have the chance to experience.
The incident is still under investigation by the police, although all those involved in the crash stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Authorities are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
