Nick Antoine Obituary, Death; Family names 20-year-old victim in Vancouver Island crash.

Nick Antoine Obituary, Death – A tragic accident on Vancouver Island’s Highway 4 over the weekend claimed the life of a young man and left another driver with serious injuries. According to Oceanside RCMP, the crash happened on Saturday afternoon when a Honda Civic traveling eastbound appeared to lose control on a winding stretch of road. The Civic veered into the path of a westbound Chevrolet Impala, leading to a violent collision. Police said the force of the crash caused the Honda to catch fire, engulfing the vehicle in flames. The driver of the Civic was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Impala, identified as a 70-year-old man from Alberta, sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with what authorities described as “potentially life-threatening injuries.” As of Monday morning, police had not yet provided an update on his condition.

While RCMP have not officially released the identity of the deceased, family members have confirmed that the victim was 20-year-old Nick Antoine. His mother, Nancy Antoine, shared the heartbreaking news both in a Facebook post and during an interview with CHEK News. She said her son had been traveling to Sooke that day, where he was scheduled to perform as a bass player with a band he had recently joined.

In her emotional tribute, she wrote, “My son was chasing his dreams.” She described Nick as someone who was not only talented but also deeply committed to his passion for music.

The band Antoine was set to play with, Dead Ahead, also issued a statement mourning his sudden death. In a heartfelt message posted on social media Monday, the group’s founder praised Nick’s character and contributions, saying, “Nick wasn’t just a good guy, he was a great young man.” The statement went on to extend condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him, emphasizing the profound loss his passing represents.

Tributes have continued to pour in, with many highlighting Antoine’s determination to pursue his musical ambitions despite his young age. Friends and family have remembered him as someone with an adventurous spirit and a bright future ahead.

Police say the investigation into the cause of the crash is still in its early stages. However, preliminary findings suggest that both road conditions and speed may have been contributing factors. The section of Highway 4 where the accident occurred is known for its curves, which can pose challenges for drivers, especially under certain weather or road surface conditions. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly on stretches of road that require reduced speeds and greater attention.

RCMP are continuing to gather evidence and will release further information as the investigation progresses. They have not yet determined whether any mechanical issues or other external factors played a role in the collision.

For the Antoine family, the loss of Nick has been devastating. His mother’s message underscored both her grief and her pride in the path her son had chosen. “He was living his dream,” she said, adding that she hoped people would remember him for his passion and the joy he brought to others through his music.

Community members and fellow musicians have also expressed their sorrow, sharing memories of Nick’s kindness, energy, and drive. His death marks a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be altered by tragic accidents on the road.

Authorities have not announced any memorial services yet, but those close to the family say they expect a celebration of Nick’s life will be organized to honor his memory and love for music.

The incident remains under active investigation as police work to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
