Nicholas M. Griffin; Coroner identifies 18-year-old victim in Champaign shooting.
The Champaign County Coroner has identified Nicholas M. Griffin, an 18-year-old from Champaign, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on January 9. Griffin was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m. after succumbing to his injuries.
Champaign Police responded to a shooting at around 4 p.m. on the 1900 block of Cynthia Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Griffin with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to the hospital but sadly did not survive.
According to the police, Griffin and his companions were inside a vehicle parked in a lot when an unknown individual opened fire on them. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances and identify the shooter.
