Nathan Omel, Cynthia Omel Obituary, Death – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two individuals who were killed in a tragic crash north of Aurora on Monday. The accident occurred on Highway 14 when a southbound semi-truck collided with a northbound pickup truck.

The victims were identified as 42-year-old Nathan Omel, who was driving the pickup, and his 66-year-old mother, Cynthia Omel, who was a rear passenger. Both were from Grand Island, and unfortunately, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third passenger, 95-year-old Marion Omel, who was sitting in the front seat of the pickup, was critically injured in the collision. He was rushed to CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, where he remains hospitalized.

The semi-truck, driven by a 34-year-old man from Kearney, was involved in the crash but the driver was not injured. Both vehicles involved in the crash had seat belts in use, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire & Ambulance, and the Nebraska State Patrol all providing assistance at the scene. Further details about the cause of the crash have yet to be released.
