Mychel Allan Stowers Obituary, Death: Man killed by police in Minnesota was wanted in his pregnant wife’s death.
Mychel Allan Stowers Obituary, Death – A man shot and killed by Minnesota police officers over the weekend was being sought in connection with the death of his pregnant wife, authorities have confirmed. The man, identified as 36-year-old Mychel Allan Stowers, was fatally shot on Saturday in St. Paul. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity, and two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid leave as the investigation into the incident continues.
Stowers was a suspect in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Damara Alexis Kirkland, who was two months pregnant when she was killed on October 19. Police discovered ultrasound photos in the apartment and a letter addressed to Stowers in the mailbox, which helped them link him to the crime.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported that St. Paul police received a tip on Saturday that Stowers was at a local business. When officers arrived, Stowers fled on a bicycle. Several squad cars followed him, attempting to stop him. According to preliminary findings, Stowers pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officers. In response, the two officers fired their weapons, killing him. No other individuals were injured during the incident.
Stowers had a criminal history, having been paroled in March after serving time for a second-degree murder conviction related to the 2008 shooting death of a St. Paul man. At the time of the shooting, Stowers was on work release and living at a halfway house, though he had been granted a pass to visit his ex-wife, whom he had filed for divorce from in June, though the divorce had not been finalized.
The investigation into both the police shooting and Stowers’ involvement in his wife’s death is ongoing.
