Michael Steven Comstock Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in Utah’s Silver Island Mountains after a search lasting more than two weeks. The deceased has been named as 62-year-old Michael Steven Comstock, a resident of Sandy, Utah, according to a statement released Monday by the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.
The case began on July 12 when Comstock’s vehicle and an empty utility terrain vehicle (UTV) trailer were discovered off Interstate 80 in a remote area of Utah’s West Desert. Following the discovery, officers launched a search, eventually locating Comstock’s body about 20 miles away near the rugged Silver Island Mountains.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer explained in a social media post that, for unknown reasons, Comstock was separated from his UTV and appeared to be attempting to return to his vehicle on foot. Authorities believe he died due to a combination of extreme heat exposure and a possible cardiac event.
“Our deepest condolences are extended to the friends and family of Mr. Comstock,” said Palmer.
As of now, Comstock’s UTV has not been recovered. Investigators are asking for public assistance in locating it. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (435) 743-6530.
In light of this tragic incident, officials also issued a warning to those planning to travel in the remote parts of Box Elder County. They urge visitors to come prepared with sufficient water and food and to always share their travel plans with a trusted contact before entering isolated areas.
The investigation into the events leading to Comstock’s death remains ongoing.
