Authorities say that around 6:50 a.m. on July 30, officers responded to a report of a body found near the area where Beglis Parkway intersects with Louisiana Highway 108 along the interstate. Upon arrival, police discovered the deceased man and launched an investigation into what had happened.
The victim has been identified as 52-year-old McKinley Lazard, a resident of Opelousas. Investigators believe Lazard was walking along the interstate during the late-night or early-morning hours when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver responsible for the collision left the scene without stopping or calling for help.
The circumstances leading up to Lazard being on the roadway remain unclear, and authorities are continuing to search for the vehicle and driver involved. The Sulphur Police Department has urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation.
