Mario Damian-Rayas Obituary, Death – The Austin Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a person of interest linked to the city’s 70th homicide of the year. Police released a photo of the man, who is described as wearing a black, red, and white hat with a red rim, a gray Reebok sweatshirt, dark pants, and black-and-white Nike shoes. Authorities believe he was involved in a shooting on December 21 at an apartment complex in southeast Austin.

The victim in the shooting has been identified as 34-year-old Mario Damian-Rayas, who was found dead at the scene. The shooting took place around 9:25 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Downs apartments, located at 2504 Huntwick Drive. Officers arrived after receiving reports of a possible shooting and found Damian-Rayas inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m.

Following the incident, Austin Police Department Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists confirmed that the suspect fled the scene after the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the APD at 512-974-TIPS or Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
