Marcelino Calixto Pastrana Obituary, Death – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who was killed in a shooting that occurred Thursday night behind the Castroville Market on Merritt Street. The incident also left a teenage boy in critical condition.

Authorities say they received reports of gunshots at approximately 8:56 p.m. on June 26. Shortly after the shooting, two victims arrived at a nearby hospital in a privately owned vehicle. One of them, 27-year-old Marcelino Calixto Pastrana of Castroville, died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office confirmed on Friday.

The second victim, a 17-year-old male from Salinas, remains hospitalized and is in critical condition as of the latest update. His identity has not been publicly released due to his age.

The case is currently being investigated as a homicide, and officials are continuing their efforts to identify and locate any suspects involved. Law enforcement is urging members of the community who may have any information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Sheriff Tina Nieto expressed condolences to the families of both victims. “Our thoughts are with Mr. Pastrana’s family during this painful time, and we remain focused on seeking justice on their behalf,” she said. “We also keep the juvenile victim and his family in our prayers as he fights for his life. We encourage anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice and keep our communities safe.”

As of Monday, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the incident is asked to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains active, and updates will be shared as new developments arise.
