Laneef T. Mingo Obituary, Death – Authorities in Richland County are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in the Midlands area. The incident took place on Sunday evening, prompting a rapid response from local law enforcement.
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD), deputies were initially dispatched around 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the 1600 block of Devonwood Drive. While deputies were securing that area, additional information came in from dispatchers, indicating that nearby buildings along Longcreek Drive and Grays Inn Road had also been struck by bullets.
Shortly after those initial reports, dispatchers informed officers of a separate shooting victim found on Bentley Court. Deputies quickly responded to that location and discovered a person suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the injured individual to a nearby hospital.
Unfortunately, the victim later died from his injuries. The Richland County Coroner, Nadia Rutherford, identified the deceased as 21-year-old Laneef T. Mingo, a resident of Columbia. His death has now become the focus of a homicide investigation led by the RCSD.
In addition to Mingo, a second person was also injured in the series of shootings. That individual was hospitalized as well, but their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening. Authorities have not yet released that victim’s identity.
As of now, few additional details have been made public. Investigators have not confirmed whether there is a suspect in custody or if they have identified anyone connected to the shooting. The motive behind the violence remains unclear, and it is not yet known how the multiple locations involved may be connected.
