Kevin Moses Walker Obituary, Death News – A tragic home invasion in Rockingham County on Sunday night left two people dead, including a local woman and the suspected intruder. The incident occurred just before midnight at a residence on the 13000 block of North Valley Pike.
Deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 11:58 p.m. When they arrived, they found the caller, 65-year-old Michael Hatcher, outside the home. Hatcher, who is the homeowner, had visible injuries from what authorities described as a violent encounter with an armed intruder.
Another man, identified as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker from Pikesville, Maryland, was discovered dead in the driveway. Deputies then found Hatcher’s wife, 62-year-old Holly Hatcher, deceased inside the home. According to officials, she had been fatally stabbed.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that Walker broke into the Hatcher residence armed with a large knife. Once inside, he attacked and fatally stabbed Holly. The confrontation escalated as Walker then turned on Michael Hatcher. The struggle spilled outside the house, where Michael managed to access a handgun from his vehicle. He shot Walker, ending the attack and killing him.
The Virginia State Police joined the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the case. Both agencies are working together to understand the full details of what authorities have described as a highly unusual and tragic situation.
Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson issued a statement expressing the department’s commitment to uncovering the facts. He also asked the public to respect the family’s privacy, confirming that no further details would be released at this time. Based on discussions with Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst, no charges will be filed since the suspect is deceased.
