Joshua Monugian Obituary, Death – A man who was fatally shot after trying to break up a fight in La Mirada has been identified by authorities. The incident also left another man injured. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the shooting occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday in the 14800 block of Steprock Drive, located near the intersection of La Mirada Boulevard and Imperial Highway.

Deputies who responded to the scene discovered two men with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 34-year-old Joshua Monugian, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity but did not release his city of residence.

The second victim, a 51-year-old man, had been shot in the lower torso. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.

According to investigators, the two men had been standing down the street when they witnessed a man physically assaulting a woman. Wanting to help, the pair stepped in to stop the altercation.

In a statement from the Sheriff’s Department, officials said, “The victims intervened to break up the fight. Afterward, as they were walking back to their residence, a vehicle pulled up beside them. The suspect got out of the vehicle and fired several rounds, striking both victims.”

Authorities have not released a description of the shooter or the vehicle, and no arrests have been made as of now.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau. Detectives are asking the public for help in identifying the shooter and gathering additional information about the incident.
