Jose Luis Reyes Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified a man fatally shot early Sunday in east Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 36-year-old Jose Luis Reyes, a resident of Haleyville.
The incident occurred on Huffman Road, near the 1000 block. Birmingham police officers from the East Precinct responded to a call at 12:30 a.m. reporting a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Reyes lying unresponsive near a cluster of businesses. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, emergency medics transported him to UAB Hospital for treatment. Despite their efforts, Reyes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m.
At this stage, authorities have released few details regarding the circumstances of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and no suspects have been apprehended or publicly named.
