A 2015 Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling southbound on Route 674 at the time, while a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading northbound. As the pickup attempted to make a left turn eastbound into a private driveway, it crossed into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the collision and struck the side of the truck.
The rider of the Harley Davidson was identified as 73-year-old Johnny Hackney of Columbus. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Hackney was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. Sadly, despite efforts by medical staff, Hackney was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Ram pickup, whose name has not been released, was not injured in the collision, according to OSHP. Authorities have not indicated whether citations or charges may be filed, as the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
