John Simms Jr Obituary, Death – A fatal shooting in Annapolis, Maryland, early Wednesday morning left one man dead and a child injured, authorities reported.

The Annapolis Police Department stated that the incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. in the 100 block of Clay Street. The victim, identified as 36-year-old John Simms Jr. of Annapolis, succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, a child who was also struck in the shooting was transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore. Police confirmed that the child’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators have identified the suspect as Jerome Jones of Oxon Hill. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest, charging him with murder in Simms’ death as well as assaulting a minor.

Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson praised his department’s efforts, recognizing officers, detectives, and community members for their dedication to the case. The department is collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Jones.
