According to officials, KSP Post 8 in Morehead received a request for assistance from Fleming County Dispatch around 7:40 a.m. The call was related to a residential structure fire that had broken out in the Wallingford area.
Upon arrival and during the initial stages of their investigation, authorities discovered that a man, later identified as 69-year-old John Niece, had been inside the residence when the fire started. Tragically, Niece was unable to escape from the burning structure and died at the scene as a result of the fire.
