According to the Lumberton Police Department, the crash took place at approximately 6:40 a.m. on East 2nd Street, near the intersection with North Rozier Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find a man, later identified as 46-year-old Jimmy Tilley, lying on the roadway with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police stated that the driver responsible for the collision did not stop and fled the scene immediately after striking Tilley. Investigators are now working to determine the make and model of the vehicle involved.
