Jeremiah R. Adtutubofah Obituary, Death; Harvey police to give update on house party mass shooting and suspected revenge killing.

Jeremiah R. Adtutubofah Obituary, Death – Harvey Police plan to release new details on Monday concerning a mass shooting that occurred during a Saturday night house party and a possible retaliatory killing that followed on Sunday.
The initial incident took place around 8 p.m. Saturday near 145th and Des Plaines. According to officials, two gunmen opened fire at the party, injuring five people, including a 4-year-old child. However, a guest who held a Concealed Carry License (CCL) fired back at the shooters, fatally striking one and wounding the other. The surviving suspect was taken to a hospital in stable condition and is now in custody.
The child who was hit is expected to recover, and the four other victims also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The suspect who died was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors described the aftermath as chaotic, with police cars, ambulances, and people lying on the ground. “It was a shame to see something like that happen,” said local resident Terrence Simpkins, calling it a sad moment for the community and urging for more preventive action.
Although police initially stated the shooting seemed isolated, another violent event followed just hours later, possibly as retaliation. Early Sunday morning, a man was found dead inside a minivan on the 200-block of Calumet Boulevard. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified him as 28-year-old Jeremiah R. Adtutubofah.
A nearby resident, who asked not to be identified, said she woke to the sound of dozens of gunshots, which she thought were hitting garbage cans. Fearing for safety, she rushed her family away from the windows.
Investigators believe Sunday’s shooting may be linked to the violence on Saturday night. Harvey Police confirmed they are pursuing leads and have received cooperation from witnesses, though no arrests related to Sunday’s homicide have been announced.
In response to the weekend’s tragedies, Cook County 5th District Commissioner Dr. Kisha E. McCaskill issued a heartfelt statement condemning the violence. She described the incidents as heartbreaking, especially since one involved a child and occurred at what should have been a peaceful gathering.
“Just hours later, another life was lost,” McCaskill said, expressing her sorrow for the victims and their families. She emphasized the importance of coming together as a community to reject violence and work toward long-term solutions.
McCaskill called for collective action involving law enforcement, state leaders, educators, and faith groups to address the root causes of violence. She also announced plans to organize a community town hall and vigil to honor the victims and promote healing.
“We can’t undo what happened this weekend,” she said, “but together, we can choose a different path forward.”
The Harvey Police Department continues to investigate both shootings and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
