Jason Roscow: Nevada Police identify fallen officer as 17-year veteran and valued mentor.

The North Las Vegas Police Department has officially identified Officer Jason Roscow, 46, as the officer tragically killed in a shootout on Tuesday afternoon. Roscow, a dedicated member of the police force, had served the department for 17 years, starting in June 2007. He spent significant time in the traffic division starting in February 2013 before returning to patrol operations just last year. Throughout his career, he earned respect not just as a colleague, but also as a mentor and a friend.

In a statement following his death, the police department expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing that Officer Roscow was not just a valued law enforcement member but someone whose loss would leave a lasting impact. “Officer Roscow was more than a colleague; he was a friend, a mentor, and a valued member of our law enforcement family. His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy of service and bravery will continue to inspire us all.”

The tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, around 2:15 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a man allegedly pointing a gun at another individual in the vicinity of Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. However, the man ignored their commands and fled, prompting a pursuit.

Officer Roscow located the man shortly thereafter, ordering him to show his hands. The suspect ignored these commands, and in what police have described as a violent confrontation, the two exchanged gunfire. During this exchange, Officer Roscow was struck by multiple bullets. Both Roscow and the suspect were transported to University Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.

The incident is a stark reminder of the inherent risks law enforcement officers face daily as they put their lives on the line to protect their communities. The department’s Police Chief, Jacqueline Gravatt, expressed the department’s sorrow, stating, “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, friends, and his brotherhood in blue.”

A procession to honor Officer Roscow was scheduled for 4 p.m. today, beginning at the Clark County Coroner’s Office and continuing to Palm Downtown Mortuary. This public tribute would serve as a mark of respect and remembrance for Roscow’s selfless service.

The department has also committed to supporting Roscow’s family during this devastating time. As part of that effort, a public donation fund has been set up to benefit his family. Those wishing to contribute can do so through an official account established under the Injured Police Officers Fund at Lexicon Bank, using account number 1000010630.

This tragedy has left the North Las Vegas Police Department, Roscow’s colleagues, and his loved ones mourning the loss of a man who dedicated his life to public service and the protection of others. His death is a significant loss to the law enforcement community and a reminder of the daily dangers police officers face while carrying out their duty to protect and serve.
