Janica Oliphint Obituary, Death – A devastating wrong-way crash on State Highway 288 early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two people, according to Manvel police. The fatal accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Croix Road, drawing a swift response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.

Upon arrival, officers and paramedics discovered a Tesla Model S completely engulfed in flames. Despite efforts to assess the scene, both occupants inside the vehicle had already succumbed to their injuries. Authorities later identified the victims as 45-year-old Alexander Conwell of Houston and 36-year-old Janica Oliphint of Pearland.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Tesla was traveling south in the northbound lanes of SH 288 before it crashed into a concrete barrier. The impact likely contributed to the intense fire that consumed the vehicle.

Officials believe that speed played a significant role in the crash, but the exact circumstances leading up to the accident remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or other substances were involved, as toxicology reports are still pending.

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of highway accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-speed impact. Investigators will examine multiple factors, including road conditions, vehicle data, and possible driver impairment, to gain a clearer understanding of what led to the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, police are urging drivers to remain vigilant, obey traffic laws, and avoid reckless driving behaviors that could lead to similar incidents. The loss of Conwell and Oliphint serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of high-speed collisions and wrong-way driving.

Authorities will release additional details as more information becomes available. In the meantime, anyone with relevant information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Manvel Police Department.
