James Michael Parcell Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man who was found dead in a vehicle that had been swept away by floodwaters in Alamance County. The victim was 71-year-old James Michael Parcell, a resident of Haw River.
The incident occurred late Sunday night. At approximately 11:36 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Jones Drive and Calloway Drive in Mebane following a report of a missing person. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located a vehicle that had veered off the roadway and was submerged in moving water. The vehicle was found roughly 50 to 100 yards from the road.
Due to the dangerous conditions and water levels, deputies immediately called in a specialized water rescue team to assist in the operation.
According to the person who reported the incident, he and Parcell had been traveling in separate vehicles when they became separated. The caller lost sight of Parcell during the drive and became concerned when he could no longer locate him.
When the rescue team arrived, they conducted a search and found Parcell deceased inside his vehicle. His body was recovered from the car shortly afterward.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the vehicle being swept away, but the case highlights the dangers of driving during severe weather or flooding conditions. The incident remains under investigation.
